Where Were You?

A Day of Remembrance (click here)

It's hard for me to put into words the horror and complete helplessness I felt that day and weeks to follow. I hadn't grown up during any war, really. Desert Storm had only lasted 100 days and it was over. And it was over...there. Nothing ever happened here. I had seen pictures and footage of war-torn Poland and South Korea and Vietnam and other countries as a child. And I remember thinking – thank God nothing like that happens here. But then it did. I don't know if it's right to say “thankfully” it was only one day. But what a difference a day makes.

I watched the news day in and day out. Every waking minute I could spare was dedicated to the TV. I sobbed for those who died. I sobbed for their families. I sobbed for those still searching and for those who had found. I sobbed because my family was spared. And because yours might not have been. I was working for a health insurance company then. We found out the first tower was hit by a caller on another representative's phone. She started screaming “my son is there, my son is there.” I had never felt my heart sink the way it did just then. Then the calls ceased, completely. We turned on the TV in the lunch room and we watched in horror as the 2nd tower was hit and then the Pentagon. Then we heard of the plane crash here in Pennsylvania. Everything seemed to be happening in warp speed but in slow-motion at the same time. It was an experience that I never wish to relive again and one that I will never forget.

I humbly ask that you take a minute and pray for their souls, their families and yes, even for their attackers.

Dear Heavenly Father,

May all of those affected by that terrible tragedy take comfort in Your arms. Wrap them, Lord in Your love and minister to their spirit at this very moment. For while we may never know the reasons behind Your plans on this earth, surely we will know them in heaven. And may we always stand One Nation, Under God.

In Jesus' name, Amen

It's hard to believe it's been six years! My sister called me that morning and told me a plane had just crashed into the WTC. I turned on the radio just as the second plane hit.

I'll never forget that day, the way we all felt, for the rest of my life. And you bet I'll be praying for the families of those who lost loved ones.

It was indeed an erie feeling this morning as I turned the page on the flip calendar! I watched the second plane hit and, like everyone, my heart felt like a ton of bricks. Our country was forever changed. But I wonder if we the people have changed any of our ways... I'll be praying with you today. Blessings...Polly

What a moving post......your prayer was right on and today will be a day filled with prayer. Today in school we will be reviewing the events of Sept 11 so the children don't forget.
Blessings for a healthy day.

I stand in prayer and agreement with you all today for our country, for our soldiers, for all those who suffered. Let there be healing, comfort and peace.

Our town in NJ lost 16 people that morning. My son, 14 years old at the time, served two of the funeral masses. We have a piece of one of the towers in our local memorial, which I have written about today. May we always remember.

As I sit here in my office this morning looking at the photos of that dreadful day, and watching the ceremonies on TV. I don't know why I do, I’ve seen those pictures a hundred and one times before. . I guess it's important for me to remember, particularly now as we remember this day. I was born and raised in New York and I still live here today. I can remember those buildings being build,. and I can remember how empty I felt when I saw them fall. And how I felt when I saw those poor people jumping and falling to their deaths.
I will never forget 9/11. I will support Iraqi Freedom, not because I believe in war, but we can not succumb to terrorism. we must fight it like we fought every other enemy. And we must stay and finnish the job.
Think of that when you hear all those names being read this morning....

I just found your site through "my little cottage" and had to look you up because we're in PA also! I appreciate your thoughts today and thank you for your beautiful prayer!

p.s. We are big Steeler fans too (even though we are closer to Eagle territory ...Lancaster) and my husband is actually in Pittsburgh for work right now! I LOVE Pittsburgh. Of course I grew up in Cincinnati so I hate the Browns... but those Bengals, what are you gonna do with them??!!

Hopefully we will never know a day like it again either.

It does seem like yesterday. I had The Today Show on and was just catching a re-run of the first plane crashing into the tower when the second one hit. That's when I stopped everything I was doing and watched for most of the rest of the day. Later, it was so heartbreaking to see family and friends of the missing holding up pictures on TV and asking if anyone had seen their loved ones.

Still seems too very surreal...I was in the basement working out and the music was interrupted for a brief time with news from New York...I ran upstairs and watched in horror...hubby was in Chicago at the Merchandise Mart owned by the WTC..I called and pleaded for him to leave his meeting...the comuters were jammed...but trylu everyone was scurrying to get home to the burbs to their family's arms.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lords delivers them from them all.

I also can't believe it has been six years...I can only imagine the pain those who lost loved ones on that day are still feeling...I know my heart aches for them.
