It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

So Blogger is finally working again, I see. Anyone else have problems last night? I couldn't see my own pictures or any of yours for that matter. I kept checking and nothing would show. There were so many people posting pictures and I couldn't see them! I have a lot of visiting to do today.

Few things, friends. I didn't make my Hidden Mint Cookies yesterday. Do you know that the rolls of sugar cookies aren't so easy to find anymore? We have gotten so lazy, the pre-scored dough is easier to use, I guess. As if slicing the cookie, well that's just a little too taxing for a person these days. And I couldn't find any chocolate wafer cookies. And the Girls Scout Thin Mints Paula suggested are LONG gone. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what cookie to use in the center? So instead of making those, I made these. And the only thing I changed was the almond brickle. I used a bag of Heath bits. YUM!

Since we got a lot snow last night, it REALLY feels like Christmas morning. So I decided to share with you a video of one of my favorite entertainers. I adored Perry Como, a western PA boy himself! Some comedian joked that he was so laid back, that when he stood on stage to perform, the stage hands had to brace him up. I love his voice and he was pretty darn cute too wasn't he?? And he's Italian!! Anyway, enjoy the video.
Just make sure you pause my Playlist.

Take the family to see a small town Christmas Parade!

LOL...we are so glad you told us to pause the play list...when we listened to that Brad Paisley song...there was Christmas music in the background!

Have a very blessed day!

Good Morning Julie,
I have no idea where you could find that cookie dough. It may be that everyone is buying alot of them this time of year. I have no clue as I'm not the baker type. LOL. Do you mind sending me some snow? LOL. I want some snow so bad. Our local weatherman was just talking about snow last night. He said we usually get our first snow around the 1st of the year. I am so wanting to make some snow cream. I just love that stuff. Well, take care my friend and have a great Tuesday. May God Bless You and Yours.

Hugs,
Karen H.

I didn't know Perry Como was from PA. My mother had several of his albums so I grew up listening to him. When I listen to a mixed CD of Christmas music today, Mr. Como's voice is always my favorite.

Hi Julie...I know..isn't it funny how the slice and bake cookies really aren't slice and bake anymore...how lazy has America gotten?? Thanks for the recipe though...I think I may try to make it if I can find the cookie roll.
Love,
Robin

We are getting just a little snow in Ohio right now. I love Perry Como. Don't know about your cookies. Good luck finding them.

Love Perry, too...
(I always say my DH is so laid back, that if he got any more laid back he'd be dead...lol)
Good luck finding your cookies... :)

Snow...what's that...LOL, we almost never get snow here!

Love the video:)

BTW we were among the 9 states that lost internet service last night...via BellSouth aka AT&T. Don't know if that had anything to do with blogger problems or not.

Enjoy your day, Sweetie!

Forget store-bought; go to the Food Network site. Alton Brown has a recipe for homemade sugar cookie dough. Oh, and homemade marshmallows too.

Julie, check some of the discount stores in your area; several chains carry their brand of Thin Mints (sometimes actually called Thin Mints - don't know how they can get away with that) year-round.

Haven't tried them so I can't vouch for the quality, but it might be an easy option for that cookie middle!

I love Perry Como! It is raining here today - finally - and it finally feels like winter time. Wish WE had snow...not in the central valley of California!

Oh, gosh, the great Como Coincidence of '07! Do you know, for years I believed that Lake Como was named for Perry?

Kimmie said...

okay, not sure if this would work Julie, but how about a vanilla wafer sandwiched in between some thin mints and then slipped into your sugar cookie dough (that you might have to make yourself?) Sometimes the big warehouse food stores (Sam's or Bj's) carry the big buckets of sugar cookie dough...it would be in their refrigerator section...do you have one of those stores near you?

Hi Julie, ah, baking cookies...I haven't done that in quite awhile. My favorites at the holidays (and well, all year long to tell the truth) are gingerbread, the soft chewy kind.

I love Perry Como, too!

Our snow went north to Iowa, o my, they got a lot!

Friday night, we're going to Night of 1,000 Stars in our little town. Luminarias line the streets through the park and all along Main Street. Carolers and Santa at the log house...hot cider, cookies, Christmas Spirit! We love it. No parade, though.

Julie,
Keebler's Grasshoppers cookie is a chocolate wafer that tastes almost exactly like the Girl Scouts Thin Mints. They have them here at Wal-Mart.

I never knew Perry Como was so hot when he was younger! I only ever knew him from the cover of those Christmas albums from the '70s that my mom had. Still, his voice IS the holidays for me.

Oh, I am so jealous that you are having snow :( I miss it so much.
We went to our town parade Saturday. It was really nice.

No snow here 'til tomorrow.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

OK, I know that was for me... and I admit I need that little reminder (obviously)...but you didn't have to make it big and bold.

I may be dumb but I'm not blind.

Well it was warm and in the low 60's today! There won't be a change of snow until at least February.

Hey Julie, If you like Heath bits come on over to my blog. I just posted a yummy, yummy recipe. We are due to get some snow tomorrow. Sure will make it so Christmasy. xoxo Lynn

I wonder if that recipe meant mint wafers like those Andes chocolates, not actual cookies? i might try them that way, I have a cookie exchange to go to and those sound pretty tasty.

Those hidden mint cookies sound so good. It figures it's a Paula Deen recipe!

Hi Julie,
Sorry, I don't know about those cookies.
I love Perry Como!!
Good choice,

Hi Jules,

I hear ya, I went to buy all the ingredients for my baking the other day and I was really frustrated when I passed a fridge section with pre-made cookie dough in pre-cut chunks. What really got me was that it was like $1.98 a pack on sale, by the time I bought all of my ingredients, my cookies cost a lot more to make! Oh well, nothing is better than homemade anyway! Loving the Perry clip ;)

Hugs,
Dena

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our neck of the woods as well! We are covered in snow too! It sure is lovely - doesn't make for easy travel, but very gorgeous!!

Loved the clip - thanks!

Lately I've been borrowing classic movies (from 40s and 50s) and have been having so much fun with my cup of cocoa and relaxing a bit. They don't make movies like they used to anymore. I just watched "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" - found it rather amusing!

Blessings to you! Stay warm and safe!

Food Network's site wouldn't load, so I didn't get to check out the hidden mint cookies. I'll have to try back later.

If you make them, let us know how it goes. Good luck finding the dough.

Nice video. God bless Italians!
