Nice Matters and Another Video

So it's a balmy 21 degrees this morning. Factoring in the wind chill, and it feels like 15. Nice! But just like always we'll have snow now and have a green Christmas. Whatever! Last night I went to bed in sweatpants, a sweatshirt and socks. Anyone who knows me should be shocked. But I was SO cold last night. And it was a bone chill kinda cold. No matter what I did, I couldn't get warm. And I'm arguing with Austin that he needs to keep his hood up this morning when he's at the bus stop. Evidently, a hood might mess up his hair. Ah youth! Remember when you cared about things like that? When it comes to winter weather, I couldn't care less about fashion. All I care about is staying warm.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketI received a Nice Matters Award from Linda at Somewhere in Time. What a prolific award. It's contagious, you know. I can't thank Linda enough for giving me this. This is one epidemic that we'd all welcome. And really, there isn't a mean one of ya in the bunch. But, it is my honor to pass this award on to Karla at Karla's Cottage, Kari at Just Livin Large, and Heidi at Celebrate the Seasons. Each one of these women touch my heart.

And I wanted to leave you with a video. This is from one of my favorite movies: Meet Me in St. Louis. Imagine: that voice, singing a brand new song written solely for the movie, and you're just hearing it for the first time ever! Back in the day when movies were made well, with people who could act well and things were still left to the imagination. Enjoy this video, this wonderful voice and the message she's sending! And again, pause my Playlist!

When you're with a child, and you see a blinking red light in the sky, ask her, "Do you think that could be Rudolph?"

Hi Julie, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who goes to bed as if she were leaving on a polar expedition! Love that song!!!

Good Morning Julie,
I'm freezing this morning as well. It is 42 degrees here, but I am cold and seeing how cold it is there made me even colder. I don't blame ya for staying warm. My girls are the same way, they don't want to mess their hair up. LOL. I don't care about fashion either. I'm just a plain Jane type of person. I just want to be comfy. They sure don't make movies like they used to that's for sure. Too much violence and cursing in movies these days. Well, take care my friend and stay warm. May God Bless You and Yours.

Hugs,
Karen H.
P.S. Congratulations on your "Nice Matter's Award". You truly are a nice person. Contratulations to the ones you passed it on to as well.

You made me laugh...

Hope by now you got warm Julie.
Good you received the award and then passed it to my daughter, Heidi. We have snow today too and very chilly.

Ah thanks so much Julie! I really appreciate you always being at my blog leaving sweet comments. So it is your that is so nice and to me it really does matter. So thank you! Check out my blog today to see how we Americans got out Santa Claus...

I love cold but it does affect me now that I have a chronic illness. I understand how you sometimes just cannot get warm once it has gone through to your bones. But then there is nothing like crawling into bed and getting warm in soft pjs and warm quilts and blankets. That is our silver lining!

My winter lifesaver is CuddleDuds, silky undershirts and long undies. I often wear them to bed underneath my nightgown. I had to laugh that your son thinks frozen ears are better than messy hair--I remember those days.

Someone we all know...shared with me that she went to bed with three nightgowns on last night...or was it she woke up with them on? I forgot.
Love Judy Garland and I could still cry over her death :(

When I was a kid, the one thing that could start a fight at the bus stop quicker than anything was someone getting flicked on the ear on a cold day.

Good morning Julie, I am cold today, too. My daughter in law gave me a heated mattress pad last year for Christmas and, when it's cold, I turn it up to High about 30 minutes before I go to bed...oh, the warmth that greets me makes me have to get up and go back to the potty. lol It's so nice! And, I agree...fashion be hanged...when it's cold, warmth is the BIG thing with me, too!!
hugs, bj

Hi Jules,

I feel for you in that cold weather! I am suffering with a current temp of 60 something and it promises to be in the mid 70s to low 80s today! Honestly if it's below 75 I am just dying. I'd never make it where it snowed! And that red blinking light IS him...I just know it is :)

Hugs,
D

Loved the last bit about rudolph...we used to do something similar with our kids.

Have a warm and toasty day...oh and congrats on the award...a nicer blogger can't be found!

I love me some Judy! I remember the first time I watched her 'Biography' on American Masters and wept my little eyes out. I came away from it with an entirely new appreciation of what this song meant to her. Wonderful!!!

oops! I forgot to say WOOHOO! Nice does matter. If someone like you didn't get an award like this, I'm pretty sure the world as we know it would end.

Hi Julie! I'll swap your cold for our heat anytime you're ready! We are having to sleep with the air/con on every night because the humidity is suffercatingly hot! Have a wonderfully warm day sweetie!

Congrats on the award, Julie. You deserve everyone you receive.

I always go to bed in flannel pjs, long cozy shirts and socks, heck I'd wear mittens if I could, but that might be a bit much. It isn't even that cold here! But by morning, socks have been kicked off and covers are folded back. I am just cold when I get in bed, but once I am all snuggly, I am just fine!

Happy day,
Melissa

The weather sounds awsome. That is the one of the things I dislike about the south. i had heat on this morning and needed air this eve. Has my head all messed up(sinus) I think for once id love to be so cold I couldn't get warm lol.

Hi Julie, I've been reading your blog for a while now but this is my first comment to you. I understand about the cold. Central Vermont is a winter wonderland this week! You certainly deserve the "nice matters" award, though I am wondering after crying (again) listening to Judy Garland sing that song. Gets me every time. Thank you for your lovely blog.

Congratulations on your nice matter award.
I listened to the movie clip in its entirety and I so enjoyed the old sweet innocent sounds and yes the things left to the immagination.

I believed in Rudolph until I was probably 29....I think he summers in cell phone towers. It was 60 in Vegas...going home to your kind of weather.

Thank you so much for posting this, Julie. That song, in her beautiful, pure voice, really touched my heart. :)

Congratulations on that award. you deserve it.

I am sorry to hear that you are so cold. It's *really* hot here today. I am hiding from the heat in the house.

That Judy Garland version is one of my favourite of all Christmas songs, though I also think it is heart-breakingly sad.

Uhmmm..try 10..yup 10 degrees when we woke up this mornin'
It makes me soo glad you like your charm!

It will be even colder tonight, Julie. I've had to drain some of the water lines so they don't freeze. At this time of the year I often look into the sky to see if I can spot Rudolph....

I used to care about fashion, rather than staying warm, also.
Then something changed. I guess you just get wiser as you age.

The temp dropped here today, as well. It's freezing! I still have to turn my fan on before I go to bed, because I can't sleep without it!
